The past Sunday 16th of June, the Lake of Monate hosted the 3rd stage of the OWWT.
Italy and its amazing landscapes hosted the 1st event of the Italian Open Water Tour. The beautiful Lake of Monate was the epicentre of the italian OW scene during all the weekend.
The day started very early, with all the staff membres working side by side to offer to all swimmers an outstanding experience, and so it was.
The first race of the day was the Hard Swim, a 5km swim race that turned around practically all over the lake. This race was very fired, but at the end, the german young gun, Yael Baiz took the victory in front of Igor Piovesan, 2nd, and Moritz Bockes 3rd.
The female category was dominated by Camilla Montabeltti, followed for Mara Muensch, 2nd overall and the 3rd woman at the finish line was the Young german Jane Ann Hoag.
While the Hard Race was on, it took place the Special Olympics Open Water Race. It was a 1000m swim and it delighted all the crowd who cheered up these amazing swimmers and their effort.
Then it was the turn of the Smile swim, a 2,5km race. That race crossed part of the lake and as the Hard Swim, left enchanted all the swimmers. The overall winner was Stefano Ghisolfo and again, the female champion was Camilla Montabeltti.
The competition schedule finished with a Team Relay race of 3x1000m.
It was an amazing day, almost 700 of swimmers taking part of all races, the incredible atmosphere that was breathed during the whole day, and the commendable work done for all the IOWT Staff who made this possible.
